Hello
I am Abby Harrison, the Yoga, Meditation and Pilates Teacher and Remedial and Sports Massage Therapist behind Yoga in the Highlands.
My Story
Why do I teach yoga? Because I love love love practicing yoga! Because I have been hooked since my sis and I borrowed my mum's retro yoga books from the 70's. (Thanks, mum, loved the leotards). And as my love for yoga grew I created more space for it in my life.
From the generic hatha yoga books (lion pose featured a lot!), through Ashtanga, Hatha Flow, Yin, Shadow, Yoga Nidra and Pranayama it has all been part of the journey. It has been with me whilst climbing in the mountains during my teens and twenties, having four children, my child's non-verbal autism, home schooling and co-running a farm in the beautiful highlands of Scotland.
The wonderful movement of yoga helps me to feel stronger at times when I feel weak and that beautiful ujjayi breath creates peace in the brain and helps me to be here now. So I teach because I love yoga. Life is complicated, but Yoga is just to Be Here Now. Come and join me. (Retro leotards definitely allowed).

Why do I teach Pilates? Because this wonderful form of body conditioning, control, flow and alignment has particularly served me well for the last 24 years, since I was advised to practice by a physiotherapist. It has helped me with my hypermobility, and created strength and stability in me throughout my pregnancies, and after child-birth.

But let me tell you a secret!
I love many forms of movement and also being outside on this beautiful planet of ours. So as well as being a

Fully Comprehensive Pilates Instructor (Mat-work and Apparatus) and I am also training as a
Personal Trainer. I am a trained
Mountain Instructor (MIA), Mountain Leader and
Winter Mountain Leader (ML, WML) and
Rock Climbing Coach (SPA). My first teaching qualification was a
TEFL qualification, followed by a
PGCE later on. I speak
German, Spanish and French and I am both a
Swedish Massage Therapist and a
Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist.

I also loved practising Karate growing up, both Shotokan and Kyokushin and currently am drawn towards T'ai Chi and Qigong.
I can't cook though....., but can make a good salad. My poor children!

Fall in Love with Movement.
